The VPX DEVELOPMENT KIT includes a 6 slot chassis with:

  • 250 Watt Modular PS
  • Rear I/O cards
  • Express link for host PC
  • XMC carrier
  • PMC carrier 64bit, 133 MHz
  • XMC extender card
  • PMC extender card



The chassis is manufactured from aluminum to guarantee maximum ruggedness at minimum weight. Power dissipation of the installed boards and power supply is by conduction cooling through the walls of the chassis and cooling fins. The chassis can then be externally air cooled or mounted to a larger external chassis as a heat sink.

VPX versions are available with a PCIexpress bus implementation on the backplane, having 8 lanes per slot and a 64 lane switch, therefore allowing up to 7 add-on slots and a CPU slot for very high bandwidth computing applications. PCI Systems unique VPX switch solution allows easy customization of  backplane topology. Custom fabric implementation, like full mesh are available per request.

 

PCIe Gen 2 "noStub" routing is used throughout the system to maximize data throughput. Inter slot high speed communication connections are done on this mezzanine PCB. Also it is possible to use a Gb Ethernet switch and a serial Rapid I/O switch on this mezzanine, if needed. On this mezzanine card a 3D shock sensor IC is integrated and the values can be read over  a I2C bus which is connected to all applicable slots as per VITA specification.

All lab development chassis and prototype systems can be deployed without needing to change out the chassis. Add Front and rear custom covers and full sealing and you are ready to go to qualification!
